The May 2008 International Disaster Alert postcard (Myanmar Cyclone, World Food Crisis) went to press this morning;  ELCA congregations and key individuals should receive the postcard next week.  Please don't wait for the postcard, however, to begin sharing this request widely in bulletins and newsletters.  Find it posted in both PDF and Word DOC formats on www.elca.org/disaster (scroll down the page to see the disaster updates, click on either "Myanmar Cyclone" or "World Food Crisis").  ELCA.org is "in transition" to its new design and content.  If you have trouble accessing an "old" page on the new site, just replace the "www" with "archive."  In this case, you'd use archive.elca.org/disaster as the URL.  Go directly to the PDF of the alert by using http://tinyurl.com/5X4spa

A word about Myanmar:  Kathryn Sime, ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal director, writes "This has, and will be, a challenging context in which to work, but we are confident in the effectiveness and accountability of our implementing partners and their work with local partners."  Here's an example where our relationship-driven model of response pays off; we have trusted partners who work in Myanmar.  These "before the storm" relationships make the "after the storm" response easier and more effective.

Thanks for your donations to "International Disaster Response" and for your prayers and concern. Together we will make a life-saving difference.
